A tribute to all mothers

Today is Mother’s day in the USA and Matthew Readman has asked me to publish this poem dedicated to his mom and all other moms of children with Aspergers.

So here it is …

To my special Mom

I know you worry and ask will I ever play
Its okay mom who knows maybe one day

I know you get frustrated when I don’t understand
It does sink in just not as fast as it can

I hear you cry at night saying it’s just not fair
I know mom, but it’s my burden to bear

I know you’re afraid about bullies hitting me
But hey mom I’ve had some victories

But mom it’s when you hold me so tight
It makes my world happy and all right

I love you always each and everyday
Because you are my world and you get me through the gray.

I love you mom soooooooooooooooo much

Matthew

I’m sure you’ll find this a very thoughtful and moving poem, and a fitting tribute for all moms out there.

Take care and have a great day

Dave Angel

  1. Matthew, your poem made me cry. Thank you; it is beautiful.

  2. The poem hit so close to home. I have a fourteen year old that kills me to watch him struggle within himself.

  3. This poem brought me to tears. My 5 year old aspie son couldn’t finish his mother’s day card at school, because the teacher wasn’t patient enough with him. He was very disappointed. I had to work with him on my own mother’s day card at home. It’s these little things that make it so difficult, and make me think it’s not fair. He did eventually make a beautiful card, with drawings of all his favorite objects: blenders, mixers, engines, juice makers, and food choppers :)

  4. Oh Gosh, Matthew,
I have a great big lump in my throat -what a fabulous tribute to a wonderful Mom!
With sentiments like those, I don’t think your Asrperger’s is going to hold you back in life.
    Wishing you every success,
    Kay

  13. Matthew, You will never know what the strength of your words did for me, just knowing that you (and hopefully my child(ren?) with Aspergers)are okay, accepting, up for the battle and appreciative of the overwhelming unspeakable love and pride we have in you, our precious children. I feel honored, just reading your poem for YOUR mom, knowing it is possible for my kids to have the peace you seem to have, even if it is deep down some days, you clearly have a peace with yourself. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful poem with me; it was really touching and positive. I am so glad you think that way and I know that your mother’s love will give you the strenght to face anything you may find in your path. You are very talented and have a precious heart. I have a daughter with Aspergers and I know she would write something like that if she could. She is also a very sweet girl and so very thoughtful. May God bless you always.

  32. Matthew,
You did such a wonderful job for your Mom. Keep up the hugs and poems, its what we parents have to hang on to when we think our kids arent listening.
My KK who is 10 also made a poem for me, it was so beautiful and the best gift i recieved beside her sitting in church with me and letting me know she loves me.

  34. Matthew, your poem brought me to tears, you sound so much like my son Matthew. We moms cry because we want so much for your lives, and we worry because we love you boys so much and want you to have a good and loving life that we sometimes can’t help but cry. We know God watches over you, but we hope that you are always treated fairly and you learn as much as you possibly can while you have us here on earth with you. Keep writing, I know your mother must be proud of you…God bless you young man!

  39. Matthew,

I was brought to tears as well, I too have a son with AS he is now 17. I have not been able to hug my son since he was 7 years old. I try everything I can to give all I can each day, but nothing seems to work. My son tells me that he hates us and that we ruin his life and give him nothing. It tears me apart inside and I just don’t know how I keep going everyday! I think your mom is a very lucky to have you in her life! Reach out and give her a BIG hug for me!!!

  40. My 22 year old Aspie son is just coming to the end of a 4 year Masters degree in Neuclear Astro Physics. Even without the results of his final exams we know he will get a 1st. When I called him this week he told me he got 100% for his latest piece of course work. So he was satisfied with this. (Not excited, just satisfied) Living away from home has been a real challenge for him. Not the coursework! After reading Matthew’s poem I realised that the day I really will be thrilled is not his graduation day but the day he tells me he loves me!

  41. Finally!!!!!!!!! Got down to the e-mail that I read so much about!!!! Reminds me of a little card that my son made for me when we had a tough time. Still have the card were I can see it everyday just to remember that he is in there and not the lost in his own mind and that we as mothers are a big part of them coping through their days as long as we are here. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!
