A useful resource for employment and Aspergers

Hi there – Just a quick blog update. I came across some great booklets that you can download all about helping people with ASD into employment. They are really helpful. Just go to:

Have a great day

  1. Dave, thank you so much for the link to these booklets. It couldn’t have come at a better time for us. Just this week my 13 year old with Aspergers will be having his “Transition” IEP meeting, where they determine what needs to be put in place to help him prepare for future employment and college. I was at a total loss and had no clue where to begin or what ideas to bring to the IEP meeting. This will help alot! Thanks again.

  2. Our IEP meeting is tomorrow and it’s our first to include transition planning since our son is now 14. He will also be attending for the first time, so I’m sure that will give the meeting a different dynamic. Hopefully he will not have any meltdowns or act out too much. He has been having some better days but things started unraveling yesterday so here we go again.

Does anyone else have an AS child that goes through almost manic phases like this where they just can’t seem to hold it together to do the simplest things and get so upset about everything? He thinks the world is all out to get him and take everything from him that he cares about, nobody loves him, etc. Sometimes he leaves this highly emotional phase and things get better for a few days but back to the same thing again.

    Thanks for the input,
    Ronda

  3. Ronda,

You just described my son. He was Dx after 11 years of trying to get the doctors to say that he has AS. He feel so desperate and are at a terrible crossroads right now it dealing with his behavior. We are frantically trying to keep this family together. We are so emotionally drained after 11 years of trying to find anything that will work.

I’m glad to know we are not alone. I know exactly how you feel.
