Satoshi Tajiri is the 41 year old Japanese creator of the incredibly
popular Pokemon computer game.
He has been described by his employers at Nintendo as incredibly
creative yet reclusive and eccentric, and is diagnosed with
Satoshi was raised in Great Tokyo, Japan and had a fascination
with collecting insects as a child, and was nicknamed “Dr. Bug”.
However when his local ponds were paved over to build

take home as he spent so much time there!
When he was 16 (in 1981) he won a game designing competition
In 1982 he hooked up with friends to create “Game Freak”
magazine which had modest success with the gaming crowd.
From there he become more involved in making games and in 1989
founded his company “Game Freak”, where he began successfully
designing games for Nintendo and Sega.
Then one day in 1991 he saw 2 kids playing their Game Boy
machines with a little link cable joining them up.
Satoshi visualized little insects crawling between the 2 systems on the
cable and this was his BIG aha moment…
He began to plan out his game of Pokemon which he describes as:
“A way for children of a new generation to have a chance to collect
insects and other creatures the way I did.”
And out of this noble aim – he inspired literally millions of kids
around the world with his Pokemon games .
Satoshi is a great example of how “out of the box” Asperger’s
thinking can produce amazing results.
Now I am not saying every child with Asperger’s can invent a global
But with the right support and nurture they can use their natural talents
and skills to find a place in the world where they are truly valued and
