How the Parenting Aspergers Community site will look …
Hi there,
It’s Dave Angel again with the latest update on www.ParentingAspergersCommunity.com
There are going to 5 main Departments on the website which will be the following:
1. Parents Help Corner
2. Behaviors and Treatments
3. Helping Your Child to Cope with Other People
4. More Aspergers Topics
5. Resources
Within each of these 5 Departments is a whole host of great features and information.
As you can tell the titles are pretty self-explanatory, but I am going to break down in detail each area over the next couple of blog posts.
Today I will talk more about The Parents Help Corner …
This Department has a number of categories of which the most important are:
Ask for Help – This category allows you to submit a question to me directly through the website which I know will be a great help for so many parents. I will then either reply in brief to you, or try to write a more in-depth answer for sharing on the site, depending on which seems appropriate.
Aspergers New Headlines – This is a constantly evolving live feed of the latest news stories from around the world related to Aspergers and Autism – so that you can keep right up-to-date at the click of a button on your computer.
Most Popular – This is a link that takes you directly to the most viewed/popular information and articles on the site.
Parenting Forum – For me this is the “jewel in the crown” of the website. It’s a really easy to use discussion forum that will allow parents to have discussion, swap ideas, make friends and just communicate with other parents who experience similar issues all over the world.
Member Profiles – I really love this area too as it expands on the “social networking” theme from the Forum. As you may have heard me say before; this is like a mini-version of Facebook or MySpace exclusively for parents of children with Aspergers. So you can go on there and make “friends” with people, upload photos, have your own blog, write your own profile and interact with other members (and me!) through instant messaging on the site.
Now I hope that this gives you a good idea about “The Parents Help Corner” Department – but if you have any questions please post them here on the blog and I’ll try and answer them as soon as I can.
Watch out for the next blog post on Friday which will be all about the following departments:
Behaviors and Treatments
Helping Your Child to Cope with Other People
Take care for now,
Dave Angel

I am so excited about this site and so appreciative of your dedication to parents and in my case, grandparent, of Aspergers children. Your new blog is like answered prayer.

Great work Dave!!! Keep it up. It is appreciated!!! My boy is 13 years old. He is our adopted child that we have had since he is 6 years old. On top of the Aspergers he comes from a very abusive background. Hard knowing what behavior stems from Aspergers, the abusive background and just normal teen behavior. Thanks for your insights. Todd

i can’t wait for this website-the articles are so informative and perfectly easy to understand, instead of just big words. My son is almost 7 and has asperger’s-again can’t wait

Hi Dave
Thank you so much for this site it is so comforting to know that so many others are going through the same problems. I used to think my grandson was a decendent from satan himself (I’m ashamed to say) but since his diagnosis and thanks to all your information I now regard him as special gifted and totally unique – I love him to bits and we now have a really good relationship. He is only 7yrs old (just) and I can now get through to him in HIS way (sometimes ha ha)

dave,
thanks to this site for being here all the time. my sons aspergers is a more oppositional, disruptive defiant type than most and despite psychiatric and theraputic care for the last 6 years (he is 12) i find more comfort and understanding here. sometimes it’s a hard lonely job being a parent of an aspie and being one. this site reminds me that we are not alone..jane

this site tells me that i am not alone in my struggle to raise an aspergers child (12) who is alternatively oppositional, compulsive and obsessive, difficult and amazing and unique. i like to read about the other aspies who, like mine have comorbid conditions. it is so hard to make sense of all this alone most of the time-even w/the doctors help. thanx

Dave, I am so glad i found this site, I have an 8 year old son, who has been under the proffesionals now for 4 years, he has all the symptoms of aspergers with his rountines only eat certain foods, only wear certain clothes everthing has to be done in order or he becomes very aggresive. The drs have labelled him a selective mute and just recently labelled him with O C D but they have assesed him after seeing him once for about 30 mins. They have ruled out aspergers as they say my son gives eye contact, and is a spoilt child. This is really upsetting as a parent I know something isnt right, He cannot cope with any change he dosnt like load noise he wont be kissed when he grows out of shoes or clothes or coats the new ones have to be identical in colour texture. I really dont know where to go from here.

Many similarities between Aspergers and PDD. Any comments?
