Dave, I am so glad i found this site, I have an 8 year old son, who has been under the proffesionals now for 4 years, he has all the symptoms of aspergers with his rountines only eat certain foods, only wear certain clothes everthing has to be done in order or he becomes very aggresive. The drs have labelled him a selective mute and just recently labelled him with O C D but they have assesed him after seeing him once for about 30 mins. They have ruled out aspergers as they say my son gives eye contact, and is a spoilt child. This is really upsetting as a parent I know something isnt right, He cannot cope with any change he dosnt like load noise he wont be kissed when he grows out of shoes or clothes or coats the new ones have to be identical in colour texture. I really dont know where to go from here.

this site tells me that i am not alone in my struggle to raise an aspergers child (12) who is alternatively oppositional, compulsive and obsessive, difficult and amazing and unique. i like to read about the other aspies who, like mine have comorbid conditions. it is so hard to make sense of all this alone most of the time-even w/the doctors help. thanx

dave,
thanks to this site for being here all the time. my sons aspergers is a more oppositional, disruptive defiant type than most and despite psychiatric and theraputic care for the last 6 years (he is 12) i find more comfort and understanding here. sometimes it's a hard lonely job being a parent of an aspie and being one. this site reminds me that we are not alone..jane

Hi Dave
Thank you so much for this site it is so comforting to know that so many others are going through the same problems. I used to think my grandson was a decendent from satan himself (I'm ashamed to say) but since his diagnosis and thanks to all your information I now regard him as special gifted and totally unique - I love him to bits and we now have a really good relationship. He is only 7yrs old (just) and I can now get through to him in HIS way (sometimes ha ha)

Great work Dave!!! Keep it up. It is appreciated!!! My boy is 13 years old. He is our adopted child that we have had since he is 6 years old. On top of the Aspergers he comes from a very abusive background. Hard knowing what behavior stems from Aspergers, the abusive background and just normal teen behavior. Thanks for your insights. Todd
